Rooted

“But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8 NIV

People talk about putting down roots in reference to establishing stability usually by means of home, family, or career. Yet, in the life of a Christian, our roots are not in those things, but in our trust and confidence in the LORD.

The roots of a plant or a tree are vital to its survival. The roots are the part of the plant that anchors it and absorbs the nutrients and moisture it needs to thrive.

Our faith and confidence in God is what anchors us. Abiding in Him is how we absorb the nutrients and life we need to thrive in this world.

When we establish ourselves in Him, placing our confidence wholly in Him, we will find that even though the heat comes, we don’t just survive, we thrive. Our leaves will remain green, bearing witness to His life within us. And we will not fear in times of drought, because we know and believe it is to our Father’s glory, that we bear much fruit, showing ourselves to be disciples. (John 15:8)

I am tending the garden of my heart today as I reflect on these verses.

May today be a Word-Filled Wednesday for you!

A great verse with a beautiful word-picture. How much of my problems are from trying to receive nourishment from junk and putting my trust in the wrong things? So my leaves are tired and droopy. I need to get to the root of the problem. Thanks for reminding me.

Love this verse…at my age, roots are vital to the message of whether it’s time to go to the hairdresser or not…seriously, though, I do love this verse and the picture is perfect for the deeper spiritual message than my hair, lol!! Happy WFW!!
