Last year around this time, I joined in the Living Proof Ministries blog Siesta Scripture Memory Challenge. The challenge was to memorize two verses per month for an entire year, totaling 24 verses. I documented all my verses here as the year progressed.
I knew some verses by heart, but I had never intentionally memorized Scripture. It just happened that over the years some of my favorite verses had found their way into my memory banks. I am not even sure when I began the challenge that I truly understood the significance of memorizing Scripture.
But I do now.
So many moments during this year that these Scriptures were the rock on which I stood.
I recited them to myself.
I prayed them to God.
I said them out loud with fervor when fighting on the battlefield of my mind.
I quietly whispered them from my knees through streams of tears.
I clung to the promises, the hope, and the strength they offered.
And I used them when praising and worshipping an awesome God.
Tomorrow, my friend Holly and I will travel to Houston for the weekend for the Siesta Scripture Memory Celebration with Beth Moore and the Living Proof Ministries team. We will worship, listen to some teaching from Beth, and recite our memory verses to each other.
When I began last January, I never knew how important those memory verses would become to me along the way. Now, I’m not sure where I would have been without them.
I can’t wait to celebrate the word of God with 500 other women who participated in the challenge!
Thank you, Lord, for the precious gift of your Word to us.
Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”

What a great testimony! How fun that you get to celebrate
I too spent the year memorizing scripture and was completely surprised at how much I used them and relied on God’s word.
Are you still memorizing scripture this year?
I will memorize again this year. What that looks like, I don’t know yet. I haven’t started memorizing anything new yet though. What were your favorite verses from last year?
Have a wonderful time! I hear the weather is going to be amazing! Just a little jealous since we seem to be stuck with clouds and rain all weekend…
Thanks, Cindy! I did see that the weather is supposed to be nice. I will pray for some sunshine to come your way
Oh Chrystie! I had so wanted to be there also, but my daughter’s 13th birthday is Saturday, and I just couldn’t leave her on this very important day (and too expensive for all of us to go)! Have a most blessed trip! I loved doing the Siesta Memory verses all year. I’m actually doing it again this year through my own blog with a small group. Feel free to join us if you like!
Aw, I’m sorry I won’t get a chance to meet you. I hope you have a fantastic birthday celebration with your daughter!
That’s so encouraging Chrystie that you were able to memorize so many verses and were able to call on them so frequently. The David Nasser book has definitely pushed me to memorize more as well – the ones he asks us to memorize and also the ones at the beginning of the chapters….
“I will delight in your statutes;
I will not forget your word.” – Psalm 119:16
Joe, memorizing the scripture has probably been one of the best things I have ever done. I am so grateful I did it. And I am so looking forward to continuing to hide His Word in my heart!
Oh, you lucky thing!! I know you are going to have a blessed, blessed time. It’s neat that this is hitting right while you’re in your 40-day journey!
Shelley, it was perfect timing. I thought it was neat how it hit right in the middle of the journey too!
